Reducing the Risk...'Long and Hard'
A Long or Short Sexual Encounter
During unprotected sex, HIV can pass from one man to another in just a few seconds. But the longer sex lasts, the more likely HIV passing from one infected person to another uninfected person can happen. The longer you're both having sex together, the more chance you have of tearing the lining inside of the anus, which could cause bleeding to occur, allowing for a higher probability that HIV will be spread from one infected person to another uninfected person.
Tip
Using a condom from the start is safest.
Rough or Gentle
Heavy, forceful and rough sex means more chances that a penis and/or an anus can get damaged. Tiny cuts, sore skin or bleeding give HIV an easier way out of one man and into another. Having slower, more gental sex and using lots of water-based lubricant lower the chance of skin damage such as tearing the lining inside the anus.
Tip
Make sure to use lots of lube and go slow when having anal sex.
